TWO creative pupils from Millbrook Junior School have won a banner design competition to promote site safety at Barratt and David Wilson Homes’ Bertone Manor development in Barton Seagrave.

The housebuilder enlisted the help of local school children to try to warn children about the dangers of playing near building sites as they were getting ready to break up for the summer holidays.

After receiving over 100 posters with various impressive designs, the developer chose two banners to go at each of its developments for both Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes from winners Hallie Rennocks and Finlay Norton (both 11).

The judges were impressed with the colours used on each of the banners, and the way they both highlighted the dangers of playing on building sites.

The pupils were both presented with a £10 Toys ‘R’ Us gift card each as a thank you and were invited along to the Warkton Lane developments to take a look at their designs.

Jackie Day, Sales Director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes South Midlands, said: “Our Bertone Manor development is predominantly family orientated so it is very important to us to promote the dangers of playing on a building site.

“Many children do not realise the hazards presented by building sites and perceive it as a fun and exciting place to play, especially in the summer holidays when they have a long break from school.

“However, that is certainly not the case and we are very grateful to Finlay and Hallie, as well as the rest of the pupils at Millbrook Junior School, for helping us to raise awareness and hopefully discourage children from entering building sites unattended.

“We would like to thank all of the pupils for the high standard of all the entries we received, but these two stood out to us and I’m sure they will make very bright and colourful deterrents.”

Andrew Wood, Assistant Headteacher at Millbrook Junior School, said: “It is always a pleasure working with local companies, which give pupils a real life purpose for their work.

“The pupils thoroughly enjoyed working on their designs and were keen to produce clear and vibrant posters which would keep other children safe.”

Bertone Manor, which launched last year, offers a range of one, two, three, four and five bedroom homes surrounded by beautiful countryside.
