Cynthia Spencer Hospice has been named Charity of the Year at the Northamptonshire Business Awards during the charity’s 50th anniversary year.

The Northampton-based charity received the award at a ceremony at Sywell Aerodrome on Friday 11 September.

Organised by Northamptonshire Chamber of Commerce, the annual awards recognise businesses, charities and individuals contributing to the county.

Cynthia Spencer Hospice Charity raises funds and builds community support for specialist palliative care services for patients and families across Northamptonshire.

Its services include care at the inpatient hospice unit, Hospice at Home, outpatient and wellbeing services, lymphoedema care, bereavement support and specialist palliative care within the community.

A Northamptonshire Chamber spokesperson said: “This award celebrates the extraordinary work they do across our community, providing vital care, compassion and support to local people and their families during some of life’s most difficult moments.

“Their dedication, impact and unwavering commitment make them incredibly deserving winners.”

Chief executive Asma Maya Joseph-Hussain collected the Cynthia Spencer Hospice Charity of the Year award alongside members of the charity’s team.

Asma said: “We are over the moon to have been awarded the Charity of the Year title, especially with us celebrating our 50th anniversary this year.

“Collecting the award alongside my incredible team was very special as they all play their part in helping to provide outstanding, vital palliative care in our beloved community.

“As we celebrate 50 years of care at Cynthia Spencer Hospice Charity, I am grateful to all the heroes in the past and present who have worked with us, volunteered for us, fundraised and donated to ensure we are there to care when families need us the most.

“Our holistic services are only possible due to the generosity of so many. Thank you to everyone who has supported us and for making a difference. I hope you will continue to do so for many years to come.

“The demand for our specialist care continues to grow and we are not complacent in working tirelessly to ensure that we are able to provide it.”

She also thanked Northamptonshire Chamber and category sponsor Learning & Skills Training Academy CIC for recognising the charity’s work.
