THERE’S nothing like leading by example and Phoenix Training Managing Director Emma Williams now proves expert help and advice can come right from the top after becoming a qualified forklift instructor.
Emma bought the Wellingborough company, founded in 1983 by her father David Nesbitt, on his retirement four years ago, and has seen it continue to grow, with a team of instructors providing a portfolio of mechanical handling and forklift training packages to clients from across the region.
Looking to expand its training team, Emma decided that having qualifications herself would open up more opportunities to grow the business.
“We are growing at a steady pace and are looking to recruit more instructors over the next few months, but I thought that it made sense for me to have the necessary qualifications, so that I can step in when needed and deliver training,” said Emma.
“This is very much a male-dominated industry, and it’s unusual to have a female instructor, and it will be interesting to see if it appeals to any women in the industry who might prefer to be taught by a woman. All the clients I have trained so far have been men, but we live in a changing world and it’ll be interesting to see if it proves to be what some clients are looking for.”
Emma was also successful in being awarded the Entrepreneur’s Circle Entrepreneur of the Year 2013 for Northamptonshire.
Fork lift and mechanical handling equipment training courses are at the core of the Phoenix Training operation and, having its own training centre, based at Park Farm Industrial Estate in Wellingborough, is a huge benefit to a number of customers.
The centre offers instructor training courses as well as courses in health and safety and emergency first aid at work.
